This project is being implemented by the International Republican Institute (IRI) in partnership with Peace Education and Development Foundation (PEAD) and has established a Young Democrats Academy (YDA) comprised of 20 national and provincial parliamentarians under the age of forty.
The initiative will provide the skills and political incentives for the new generation of politicians to pioneer enhanced standards of democratic governance at the constituency-level. This approach will be complemented by the establishment of two-way communications platforms to facilitate regular dialogue between voters and their elected representatives, enhance accountability, and stimulate active citizen participation in the political process, especially among youth, women and religious minorities.
Goals & Objective
Ensure the participation of all citizens in democratic processes by promoting enhanced accountability of elected officials to their constituencies to be more effective parliamentarians.
Objective 1: Young Democrats Academy members constructively engage with constituents, and seek solutions to issues raised.
Objective 2: Citizens utilize opportunities for engagement with local parliamentarians participating in theYoung Democrats Academy to raise issues of concern.
The YDA project comprises of 20 national and provincial MPs and is spread on a national level including parliamentarians from all the major political parties from Karachi, Jamshoro, Khairpur, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Kasur, Sargodha, Toba Tek Singh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Jhang, Charsadda, Buner, Upper Dir and Mardan.
