As part of the ongoing initiative for the promotion of social cohesion and resilience in the province, Peace Education And Development (PEAD) Foundation carried out a Calligraphy Exhibition in Nishter Hall, Peshawar on 02nd November’ 2017.
The purpose of the Exhibition was to highlight the diligent efforts of the students from the Madaris to exhibit their artistic skills in form of calligraphy. These Madaris students have been engaged in calligraphy classes in their respective Madaris under the supervision of experienced Calligraphers working for PEAD under the project “Strengthening Social Cohesion And Resilience through Educational initiatives” being implemented in Peshawar and Swat. Through Calligraphy the students have been trained to highlight the Quranic Verses giving messages of peace, social cohesion, tolerance, human rights and patience, in a beautiful way using “qalam” and “colors”.
The Exhibition provided a platform to showcase the exceptional work undertaken by the Madaris Students. Various samples i.e. Calligraphy on Canvas and charts were displayed in the art-gallery of Nishter Hall, Peshawar. These beautiful displays were shaped by the students under the supervision of their designated Calligraphers.
The colorful event was attended by people from various walks of life and took keen interest in the displays made by the students form Madaris under 18 years of age. Similarly, a wide audience from the religious seminaries under the guidance of their Madaris Heads “Mohtamim’s” also attended the event and expressed their enchantment on the work done by their madaris fellows.
PEAD Foundation as fortunate hosts, welcomed the distinguished guests to witness an important landmark in context to the province of KP, where the Madaris Students under the banner of a civil society organization came out of their respective institutes for playing their part for the promotion of social cohesion through peace messages in form of Islamic Calligraphy, thus making the community realize that Madaris Students are integral part of the society and can play a positive role in the overall uplift of the communities.
PEAD also undertook a calligraphy competition on the venue to showcase the learnt calligraphy skill by the students for the audience and the media present. 25 Madaris students (Best Performers) from three participating Madris were part of the competition. Selected Quranic Verses and Hadith were shared with the students for calligraphy. Indeed it was a treat for an eye to watch Madaris students writing and making beautiful samples of calligraphy using ink and colors.
District Nazim Peshawar, Muhammad Asim Khan and Deputy Speaker, Mehr Taj Roghani graced the occasion as Chief Guests and inaugurated the event. They showed keen interest in the displays and communicated with the students to get some background about the initiative. Media Teams from major news channels were also present to get feedback from the students and the audience present at the event. The prize distribution ceremony was held as a concluding exercise, where the best performing students, the teachers and head of the Madaris were acknowledged for their work and services. The Chief Guests addressed the audience and expressed their gratitude towards PEAD Foundation for organizing the wonderful exhibition and for providing the madaris with an opportunity to highlight their positive to the world. The event concluded with prayers and best wishes for the organization and the students.
